EDPNA stands for Eligible for Direct Pay Non-Attorney. This designation was created by the Social Security Administration. It allows an individual to represent clients in disability cases and be paid a fee directly by Social Security. If you are an EDPNA and represent a client, you can earn up to $9,200.00 and Social Security can pay you directly from a client’s back-pay . Non-attorney representatives that are not EDPNA are not eligible for this direct payment. They must collect from the client. EDPNAs come from all backgrounds. The most common backgrounds for EDPNAs are former SSA employees, paralegals and people in social work or mental health. The backgrounds of our former students are paralegals, retired military veterans, healthcare workers, group home operators among others.
We train persons interested in becoming EDPNA (Eligible for Direct Pay Non-Attorney) representatives. Recent changes to the Social Security rules have made it possible for non-attorneys to receive direct pay for representing clients. EDPNA representation is a growing and lucrative career choice within the legal field. To become an EDPNA representative, you must pass a 50-question, 3-hour competency test on Social Security rules, laws, and regulations.
